Things to do in Lloret de Mar

One of Costa Brava‘s tourist destinations par excellence is Lloret de Mar, a coastal town that has become the tourism capital of the area thanks to its major urban transformation and its economy geared towards this sector. We suggest a series of activities that you can do in Lloret de Mar this August to make the most of your holidays.

If you are travelling to Costa Brava from Barcelona airport, the port of Barcelona or Girona airport, thanks to Shuttle2Sun‘s shared transfer services and private transfer services, both low-cost and eco-friendly, you can do so comfortably and quickly, without any worries.

Get to know Lloret de Mar

You will surely have already heard of this paradise on the coast of Catalonia, which began to receive tourists in the 1920s, a trend that has been on the rise since then, becoming more and more well known and receiving foreign tourists from the 1950s onwards.

Lloret de Mar, located between Blanes and Tossa de Mar, has an area of 48.71 km², with 3,912 hectares of forest, and up to 9km of coastline, which form its beaches and coves.

Best beaches and coves

To enjoy the Mediterranean climate and the crystal-clear waters of Costa Brava, we suggest that you discover its most urban beaches, with all the services at your disposal, as well as its more unknown coves, which will transport you to Eden. You should also know that Lloret de Mar is one of the towns in Catalonia with the most blue flags, which certify the excellent quality of its beaches.

The beaches include Lloret beach, the most popular with tourists, which is more than a kilometre and a half long and located in the centre; and Fenals beach, the second longest, at 700 m long; both have services adapted for people with reduced mobility.

You can also visit the beach of Canyelles, surrounded by cliffs full of pine trees, and which has the only marina in the town; the beach of Santa Cristina, aimed especially at a family audience; and Sa Caleta, located under the Castell d’en Plaja, where you will find small fishing boats.

In addition, among the beautiful coves, it is worth mentioning Cala Banys, a rocky cove, steep and without sand, about 100 m long; and Cala Treumal, surrounded by thick vegetation and with a bigger swell. Also, one of the most unspoilt places in the town is Cala Boadella, about 250 metres long, where you can enjoy a moment of peace and quiet, rest and relaxation, while you enjoy the sea breeze.

With Shuttle2Sun you can reach Lloret de Mar, in a comfortable way, with its shared transfer services and private transfer services, from Barcelona airport, Barcelona port and Girona airport.

Maritime activities

To discover Lloret’s coastline in an original way, you can opt for the many maritime and aquatic activities offered by the destination during the summer months. One of them is a boat trip on the regular Dofi Jet Boats line, with which you can discover the most famous towns and beaches of Costa Brava, such as Lloret de Mar, Calella, Blanes and Tossa de Mar.

If you love water sports, you can’t miss the opportunity to kayak along the coast of Lloret de Mar, either on your own or on a guided route. Or get to know the seabed, fauna and flora of Costa Brava by snorkelling.

The town also offers the option of exploring the coastline through the Sea Routes, a public network of marine trails that run parallel to the coastal paths. There are currently two routes, the Fenals – Santa Cristina route and the Lloret – Fenals route, both of which are of medium difficulty.

Lloret de Mar also has several dive sites for you to enjoy scuba diving, ranging from those of lesser difficulty to those recommended only for professionals.

Camino de Ronda

If you prefer to explore the forests that form part of Lloret de Mar’s natural heritage, you can walk along the many routes along the coastline, such as the town’s two Caminos de Ronda, ancient paths that were used in the past to guard against maritime attacks or smugglers, and which go along the cliffs, beaches and coves.

One of them, the Lloret de Mar – Tossa de Mar trail, some 12 kilometres long, links the two towns, with numerous spots offering unbeatable views of Costa Brava.

The second, Lloret de Mar – Blanes, is one of the most beautiful walks that you can’t miss for anything in the world. You can also take advantage of the route to stop at the most unknown coves, and take a swim and enjoy a refreshing moment.

History and culture

To get to know Lloret de Mar in depth, there are many activities available to help you understand the history and culture of this coastal town. Its historical link with the sea, first as a fishing village and then with overseas trade, can be seen in the different places you can find around the town, such as the architecture of Indianos and the fishing heritage.

A great option is the Lloret de Mar Indianos Route, which includes the Modernist cemetery, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest and an example of 19th-century funerary art in Catalonia; the Museum of the Sea, located in Can Garriga, one of the most important Indian houses in the town; the Sant Romà church; the Casa de la Villa, where the current Town Hall is located; the Mossèn Jacint Verdaguer promenade; the Can Font building, in the Art Nouveau style; the hotel-restaurant of San Pedro del Bosque, which was once a monastery; the sculpture of the Angel of Lloret; the boundary cross and the chapel-oratory of the Virgin of Gracia; and the Carrer de les Viudes i de les Donzelles.
