The Salou Coastal Path

The Salou Coastal Path has its roots in the coastal history of the region, being part of an ancient network of paths that followed the coastline. Originally, these paths were used for coastal surveillance, protecting the coast from pirates and smugglers. Over time, they have been adapted as hiking and leisure routes, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the coastline in a unique way.

Today, the Salou Coastal Path is a fascinating route that runs along 9.49 km of Costa Dorada coastline, starting at Punta de Sant Pere, near Passeig Miramar and Plaça Venus, and extending to Racó de Salou, at Cap Salou, where it meets the municipality of La Pineda.

Along the trail, hikers can enjoy spectacular natural landscapes and a wide variety of beaches and coves. Starting from Platja de Ponent and Platja de Llevant, the path goes along Platja Capellans, Platja Llarga, Cala de la Font and Cala dels Crancs, among others, crossing different points of interest, such as the Civil War bunkers and other historical remains, providing a perfect combination of history and natural heritage.

You can also enjoy other coves such as Cala de la Penya Tallada, next to Punta Roja, with its majestic rocky wall that defies gravity; or Cala de la Vinya. The route ends at Racó de Salou, passing through an enchanting stretch of forest where you will find different watchtowers.

On the other hand, as part of the Coastal Path, you can follow the Salou Viewpoints Route, one of the great jewels of the Catalan coastline, offering visitors the opportunity to discover breathtaking panoramic views along its 42 viewpoints distributed along the coast of Salou.

Among the highlights of the route is the Platja Llarga floating viewpoint, some 30 metres above sea level. This is integrated, along with two others, into a park of some 15,000 square metres, with almost 20,000 specimens of plants, bushes and trees of indigenous species, with a wide range of colours and aromas.

On the other hand, you can discover the Platja de Capellans Viewpoint, located in an old park from the 70s that has been renovated to improve accessibility and comfort for people, offering an ideal place to observe the coastline in a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere.

The highest point of the route, known as the La Talaia Viewpoint, is also a must-see, a 7-metre tower in the shape of a ziggurat with an exterior staircase, which is located on the site of the former Spanish Television repeater, inaugurated in 1962.

This viewpoint offers impressive views both to the west, where you can see Salou, Cambrils and the Golf de Sant Jordi, and to the east, with views of La Pineda, Tarragona and the Badia del Francolí. It is one of the most spectacular places to enjoy the immensity of the sea and the landscape surrounding Salou.

Other places you will pass through if you do this route are the Cala Morisca park and viewpoint, an open-air space next to the cliffs, near Cala dels Crancs; as well as the Punta Prima viewpoint; the Punta del Cavall viewpoint; the Falconera viewpoint; the Far viewpoint; and the Tossa Alta viewpoint; among many others.

The Viewpoint Route is more than just a simple walk; it is an experience that connects visitors with the nature and history of Costa Daurada.

Ideal for any time of year, this route allows you to discover corners that capture the essence of Salou, while enjoying a walk along its coastline full of coves, beaches and viewpoints that offer unforgettable views.
