Spaniards eat late, and even more so in summer.
Are you used to having dinner at 6 or 7 in the evening? If you travel to Costa Dorada, Barcelona or Costa Brava, you may find some restaurants targeted at tourists that serve food at those hours, but… if you want the authentic Spanish experience, dinner is between 9 and 10 pm! The same goes for lunch, in other northern European countries it is between 12h and 13h, however, in Spain it can go from 13h (which is considered ‘early’), until 15h30.
Spaniards have a reputation for being noisy
Spanish conversations in bars and restaurants can be livelier and more passionate than in other countries. If you know a couple of words of Spanish, try to get to know the locals and join in their interesting conversations!
Spaniards are not afraid of fire
This is a culture shock experienced by any foreigner in Barcelona, Costa Dorada or Costa Brava, during the local festivities, especially for ‘Día de Sant Joan’ or for ‘La Mercè’. During these celebrations, some citizens dress up as devils or similar and perform an incredible ‘fire festival‘ (or correfoc, as the Catalans call it) in the street, where sparks and fireworks are thrown, while the rest of the public admires and cheers.
